What are your thoughts on rattan furniture? Love it? Hate it? Think it’s hip and trendy or old and tacky?
I’m still trying to decide my thoughts on rattan. It’s not my typical style, but I think in the right context it can work and really be quite stylish.
The dealer in me has noticed that vintage rattan furniture has been selling really well up at my mall lately, so when I spotted a rattan shelf for sale at a flea market a few weekends ago I decided to take a chance on it.
Well, since then more and more rattan just keeps finding me! I bought two more pieces at a parking lot sale last weekend for pennies. So the question now is what to do with this trio . . .
Some of it for sure I will paint, most likely going the spray paint route. The rattan of the chair is in really good shape though, so I might leave it as is.
I think it all has some real potential though! I’m excited to try something new and I think updating some of the pieces with paint will make them really attractive and interesting, like this cool headboard from House of Turquoise:
So is the verdict still out for you? Are are you already on board with vintage rattan furniture making a comeback?
Check back next week to see how my finds turn out!

Yes, the furniture can make the room look stylish, just be creative in its application. There will be a use and appeal with any furniture so if it adds value cool, otherwise it is junk. In your case the rattan furniture makes a cool option for your home décor, nice.

Coincidentally, I am working on a pair of rattan chairs myself at the moment! I actually started painting the first one with a brush and some Fusion, but threw in the towel and pulled out the spray paint. I love rattan painted in bright colors like your turquoise example. I debated painting my chairs hot pink, but in the end I stayed safe with creamy white. I say be more brave than I am and go with a fab color!

I guess I didn't know it was ever out and considered old and tacky. I consider it a classic that blends with a myriad of styles from English Import, Victorian, Hollywood glam to MCM. Timeless. Take a look at the Ficks Reed or LLoyd website and you'll agree. They have some wonderful finishes to copy. I like it painted and natural and the burnt bamboo.

The "burnt bamboo" sounds really interesting! Thanks for the two websites to look at also, I will check them out for inspiration :)
