I have a thing for lighting. For me, the kind of lighting in a space makes a big impact on how I feel when I’m in there.
For example, big, bright, overhead flourescent lights make me want to crawl into a hole and never come out.
Soft, glowing table lamps make me want to curl up and read a good book.
Shiny, glamorous chandeliers make me want to dance the waltz.
Is anybody with me?
Paying attention to the lighting in a space is a really important step in any room design plan. Luckily, if you’ve messed up that step before or inherited room lighting you don’t like, changing it isn’t that hard. Simple lighting switches can go a long way towards changing the entire feel of a room.

Given my slight obsession with lighting, you can imagine that I was pretty excited when the online lighting store, ParrotUncle.com contacted me about helping promote their shop.
I wasn’t familiar with ParrotUncle, so I took some time to browse their online inventory. I saw so many lamps and fixtures that I loved! Like this wooden pendant chandelier:
and this adjustable metal floor lamp (which I really want to get for my office area makeover!)
I think my favorite section of their shop though is their extensive pendant light section. ParrotUncle.com has many more pendant lights in various styles (glass, wood, modern, etc) to browse through, many at 50% off.
Swapping out a recessed light or plain, flushed mount ceiling light for a pendant light is a super easy–and often inexpensive–major style update.
Jenna at Jenna Burger Designs shows just how easy swapping out a recessed light for a pendant light really is.
Pamela at PB&J Stories makes a similar change in her kitchen. This is the “Before” photo,
and now the “After.”
Do you have your own space that could use a quick update by swapping out an old fixture with a great pendant light?

My Exciting Announcement!
So now onto the announcement portion of this post . . . After the first of the year I will be releasing an Ebook!
I have been working on writing this for about 8 months now, and we are in the final stages of formatting. I have received soooooo many questions over the (almost) 4 years of running this blog about how I started my furniture business, so I decided to compile everything I have learned into one, simple resource. I have already shared it with a few people and have been so encouraged by their thoughtful reviews and comments.
One reader said she felt like she now knew everything she needed to know and was finally ready to take the first step in starting her own furniture flipping business. That one comment alone made my heart do a little leap! I really want to offer helpful information to people and I believe Furniture Flipper will be a great way to do that.
If you are a Lost & Found subscriber at the time of the Ebook’s release (currently set for early January), you will have the opportunity to download the book for FREE for a short window of time. I want to say “Thank You” to all of you who have been on this journey with me and give you the opportunity to access the book at no cost. So, if you would like that chance, be sure to subscribe today!
Stay tuned for more information in coming weeks, and be sure to enter the great giveaway above. Please pass it along too!
Look forward to your e-book. I have to say, when I see your posts in my in box, I can’t wait to open them up. You do brilliant work and are always to generous with your tips and know how! Have a blessed Christmas!
You are so kind Kim, your comment made my day 🙂 Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.
wow mel way to go, an ebook woohoo and i love parrot uncle i would love wall sconces for my bath to replace the nasty hollywood 3 lighter lol xx
Oh man those bathroom strip lights are just terrible . . . New sconces would be fantastic though!
Yes, exactly what Kim O said! I can’t wait for the e-book, and I always go straight to your emails when I see a new one in my Inbox! I love your work at appreciate the tips you share!
That is such an encouragement Merle. Thank you!
I love industrial lighting that has a warm glow.
Me too Alison 🙂
Thanks for the chance. It really depends on the space for me. I like a juxtaposition of styles, but don’t like lamps that try to imitate something old, but just end up looking cheap. I’ve never liked recessed lights. Unlike many, I like a central overhead fixture, but use supplemental floor and table lighting for task or effect.
Agree on the cheap, faux-old lamps Teresa. Thanks for stopping by!
I would love that light over my sink. I like things to look old even if they aren’t. Thanks for the chance to win. Phyllis
I think over a kitchen sink would be a fantastic spot too Phyllis. I also really like the idea of hanging it over a laundry folding station
Any lighting that leaves a warm glow is my type. Make it industrial looking and I’m sold!
I am totally with you Jill!
Thank you for the opportunity and telling us about Uncle Parrot! We need new lighting as we decorate our terrace level for my older brother. This light would be perfect in the space! Love your blog and Mineral paints, too! Now, off to look at more lighting options…..
Ooh, Terrace level sounds like fun! Thanks for stopping in Becky 🙂
I am so inspired by you and your posts! I have always loved doing this but now I am even more excited!! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much Angie. I really appreciate your comment and being a follower. So glad some of what I share has been helpful!
i’d love to win this!
I love candlelight!
Thank you for sharing this giveaway with us. I really like the rustic industrial lighting. It adds extra ambiance to rooms that sometimes wouldn’t work with ordinary lighting.
I really like the light you are offering in the giveaway. I would use in my laundry room or over my kitchen sink. Ummm…can’t decide. Love your posts!
I hate them too! I am desperate for some fun pendant lights!
Lighting scares me. It’s a pain to put up, and it’s not cheap, so it feels like a big commitment. As a result I usually err on the side of small and more understated.
