Flea-in’ with a Friend | First Monday Trade Days

First things first—the giveaway for the $50 online credit to VintageMaya.com ends TONIGHT at midnight!  So be sure to enter if you haven’t!  They have plenty of beautiful, artisan-made items for sale on their site, ranging from housewares to accessories.  I would love the $50 credit to their shop, but unfortunately, I can’t win :(  But one lucky reader will, so make sure there’s a chance it could be you!

Now onto other things . . . Last Friday I was in heaven.  It was the Friday of First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas, and the weather was unbelievable.  August 2013 when I went to Canton, it was sunny and over a 100 degrees, and I left that day drenched and exhausted.

This day though, the skies were overcast and the high was in the low 80’s, C-razy!  So a cool summer day with several hours available to dig through endless piles of junk, not much could be better.

The one thing that could be better though is enjoying the day with a fellow junkin’ friend, and so I was thrilled my dear friend Rachel could join me for the day.

First Monday Trade Days

Isn’t she super cute!  Rachel has some junking experience, but she was wanting to come along to dig deeper into the world of bargaining and hunting through flea markets.  I enjoyed her company, and also her extra set of hands!

She had a few fun scores over the day, but I think the best was this pair of brass lamps that were only $5 for the pair! With modern new shade these lamps would be great as-is, or a quick coat of chalk paint could give them a totally new look.  I think $2.50 per lamp is the cheapest price anyone has ever paid in the history of lamp shopping.

See? You just have to be willing to dig a little to find great things for super cheap!

The only downside to the day was that the vendor traffic was a little light–being August, many vendors planned not to come because they assumed it would be 100+ degrees.  Despite the smaller market though, I still found many great treasures (note, I do not look near as cute junkin’ as Rachel does)

I didn’t buy this old tractor face, but isn’t that blue color amazing?

My favorite purchase of the day was this vintage store bread rack.

It was the first thing I saw when I walked into the market, so I had to make myself do some other shopping before committing to something so big right away.

It stayed on my mind though all day, and I guess it was meant to be because it was still for sale at the end of the day when we made our way back to my van. I love old store displays and think this one would be beautiful on a porch with gardening supplies or in a kitchen with cookbooks, linens, etc.

If I had a large enough master bath, I would keep it and use it for towel storage just like this.

Isn’t that gorgeous?

When the day ended, Rachel and I made our way back to the suburbs cool, happy, and with a full van of great junk.

Just about all of my Canton treasures have made their way up to my ACM booth space, and you will see more of them soon :)  I hope you have had a “heavenly” day recently as well.
